Needed - More New Churches!
Why does the S.B.C. need more new churches, when it already has more than 42,000 with some 16 million members?
Research has shown that 3,600 new churches are started in the U.S.A. each year, but 3,200 close their doors!
The result was a net gain of only 4,600 churches from 1990-2000.  Just to have kept pace with the population growth during that decade, a net gain of 39,000 was needed!  America is growing 'less churched' year by year in spite of the starting of about 3,600 new churches on a yearly basis.  Statistics show that in 1900 there were 29 churches for each 10,000 in population.  Today, there are only 11 churches for every 10,000 people living in the U.S.A.

Breaking the Language Barrier
In the 2000 census over 45 million (18%) people said they spoke a language other than English at home.  At least 311 different languages are spoken throughout the U.S.  That number is only 4.5% of the world's languages.  This points us to the fact that cross-cultural missions is essential.  Visit www.onmission.com  for articles on cross-cultural evangelism.  Here are the top languages other than English spoken at home in the U.S.
> 29.1 million Spanish
> 2 million Chinese
> 1.6 million French
> 1.4 million German
> 1.2 million Tagalog Philippino
> 1 million Vietnamese
> 1 million Italian
> 900,000 Korean
> 700,000 Russian
> 700,000 Polish
> 600,000 Arabic
